「個別研究」課程說明
本課程設計在於協助學生透過三個學期的討論過程，配合學術訓練討論課，逐步完成論文寫作的訓練，包括研究計畫的書目，文獻回顧的撰寫，以及論文提案。因此，學生應該提早與指導教授討論如何規劃個別研究的進度。如果有必要，指導教授會視情況建議學生與特定校內外教師進行專業領域的個別研究。
課程目的為透過討論，激發思考，確實掌握概念。同學們可以自行擬定初步書單，規劃討論日期以及各週主題。書單的規劃原則是要透過有系統與組織的閱讀，建立問題意識的敏銳度以及專業領域的知識基礎，磨練對於現有研究成果的批判視角，並逐漸形成論文研究計畫的研究問題、對象與架構。
初期階段，建議隔三週一次討論，第一學期進行5-6次。第二學期以及第三學期可以調整為4-5次。預計完成一個學期的個別研究之後，下一個學期可以正式提出論文提案，以便進行論文撰寫。
請於討論前將整理好的閱讀札記寄給指導教授，以2-3頁為原則。札記重點除了概述文章的主要論旨以及論點大綱之外，也針對其中對於你個人關注問題有相關的論點，進行申述。這些札記可以累積為你們日後的提案中的文獻回顧或是問題意識。論文研究主題已經較為明確者，則可進行提案或是章節的進度報告討論。個別研究課程時間可以個別安排，並於學期初確定該學期的進度。
*開始選修個別研究時，必須找定指導教授。最遲第三學期必須選定指導教授。

The nature of the Independent Study is for students to work with their thesis supervisor on their research projects. Students can take "Proseminar" or "Academic Writing" when they begin the Independent Study in the first semester.
At the beginning of the semester, please make an appointment with your thesis supervisor and discuss your objectives for this semester. In general, you can meet every three weeks, five meetings in one semester. You can design your schedule and the readings/tasks for each session. Please send your thesis supervisor your written text (2-3 pages) two days before your meetings. You can meet either in person or through a zoom meeting.
Throughout the discussion, you will work on your research problematics, working bibliography, literature review, thesis outline, thesis statement, and finally, a draft proposal. Ideally, you can present your thesis proposal in the following semester and begin writing.
*Please choose your advisor before you take the Independent Study course. Upon completion of three semesters of coursework, students may obtain Thesis Advisor Agreement Form from the Program Office
